Every Wise Woman pt2

By wisdom a house is built…Prov 24:3

Keeping the home is a service to the Lord, but one which has fallen in drastic decline in recent generations. We are blitzed with media and surrounded by the “modern” propaganda of what families look like, that now we are settling for a broken confused substitute.

Although men are called to be the spiritual leaders of their households, women have great bearing on the spiritual health of their homes. Prov 31:27 say’s, “She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” This is our spiritual duty toward our homes – to help keep and guard them, because they are dwelling places of the Holy Spirit. The fragrance that rises from a woman’s home largely derives from the temple of a woman’s heart.

When we build a home for our family, we make an honorable home for Christ. The Holy Spirit dwells in our bodily temples (I Cor 6:19, II Cor 6:16), and so He dwells with us in our homes. Does He find your home an honoring and pleasant place to be?  Do you allow the world’s idols to profane the temple of your home through your choice of diversions? Are you giving your children your best reflection of Christ in your daily walk? Our adversary is only too happy to have us lulled into giving the Lord something merely “good” if it keeps us from giving Him what is best.

It will not matter to your children what you say your priorities are; they will learn your priorities from what you do, and how you spend your time.  Other than the snare of television, nothing has contributed more to decline in home worship and Biblical hospitality than families being drawn away from home as the center of life. The Lord designed the home to be the wellspring of discipleship, a center where hearts are bound together for His glory. Our adversary seeks to distract our hearts and our time away from home! How can we restore what has been lost?

May I suggest a quiet season of drawing apart from outside distractions, and those within and commit to reclaim the Lord’s priority of the home.

We have lived in a fallen, rebellious culture for so long that we must be even more diligent to shake the dust of the world from our feet, and rediscover what it means to walk in the paths of our God-ordained roles in the home.

In Deuteronomy 6, God offers His model for the home (as well as child training). A short excerpt:”…and these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up …”

Ladies, whether you are a single mom or married here is God’s picture of a family.  This is family worship, the heartbeat of discipleship, a necessity for revival.

“The strength of a nation is built on collective obedience that stems from a personal relationship with God and obedience to His commands.”
