That I May Know Him

Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You…Ex 33:13

The women that I mentioned in our previous devotion are women whom I’ve gravitated to as my role models. As the years have passed I’ve discovered why these women have impacted me so greatly.

They seem to me to be individuals who’s lives posses one similar character quality. As I’ve heard them speak and read their books there’s an over arching passion, a common thread in who they are as godly women. They desire to know Christ!

As a woman of God your character and my character is directly associated with our pursuit of knowing God. This is the hinge on which everything about our experience as godly women and our walk with God swings.

Knowing God was Moses’ bent, to know God was Paul’s distinctive trait. Is it any wonder that these men lived out there high calling and influenced others so mightily for God’s kingdom? This more that just an intellectual (just the facts ma’m) curiosity. It’s becoming that woman who wants to deeply know what brings Him joy, know what makes Him grieve, and longs to live her life for the worth of His glory.

I don’t know about you but just writing this brings a mixed bag of hope and fear. Hope because this is exactly the cry of my heart. Fear because I am flesh and as soon as I press the “publish” button on this devotion, I will face the daily obstacles that try and keep me from this pursuit. Let’s thank God for the words of Paul that said “not that I have already obtained…but I press forward” Phil3:12.

Ponder these questions. Is knowing God the cry of your heart? What is taking more priority and passion in your life over knowing God?

That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death. Phil 3:10

Thanks for this Laurie! I had to add a box of tissue to my quiet time table…but I think that is good, God is getting to the heart of the matter. As I spent time with Him, He reminded me of Lamentations 3: 22 – 23 ~ so thankful for this because I know I will stumble, but his mercies are new every morning, Praise God!
