What’s the Difference?

Last week we talked about the godly women that have touched our lives in meaningful and profound ways. Those women who’s walk with God sparked a desire in us to reach for more than just the mediocre Christian life.

We have to ask ourselves, what is it that these women possess that have such an impact on the lives they come in contact with?  What’s so different about her? Over the year’s I’ve come to learn that it’s something that’s becoming uncommon in our modern society.  Because we live in a culture of “mass production” and “give the people what they want” this quality is scarcely sought and rarely found. It’s called “Character”. I believe it is exactly this that has set certain women apart to fulfill God’s high calling.

I think of woman like Ruth Graham wife of Billy Graham, Elisabeth Elliot, Susanna Wesley mother of John and Charles Wesley and many more. I have read their bioghraphies only to discover their character as godly women was rugged, tanacious, and undefeatable. In other words, they had moxie. These were not woman who earned a “platinum member” on spirituality. Instead they lived real life in real time experiencing the joys, and heartaches, triumphs and tragedies and they continued clinging to heels of God.

The word character is defined as, a distinctive trait, bent, disposition, grain, and makeup.

This is where we begin our series. Character (look back to the definition) is the hinge in each of our lives by which everything else is determined. At the end of the day it’s our character that will make the difference and what you and I allow God to make of it, will tell the story of our high calling.

Ponder these questions. Am I willing to count the cost of becoming a woman who lives out her high calling? Will I go before the Lord allow Him to start the process with a little heart to heart character analysis?
