“From weakness were made strong”…Heb 11:34
As we continue our series “A Woman’s High Calling” I can’t help but hear the voices of women saying something like, “Yes, this all sounds good but you don’t know me. You don’t know my fears or my failures. I’m a mess!”
Well, your right I don’t know you. But I do know that I too feel as though I’m the least to qualify for God’s high calling. Early in my walk with God the women who most inspired me seemed to be in “the league of extraordinary women?” I quickly realized I was not in that league.
The eleventh chapter of Hebrews is known as “the hall of faith”. Here are the heroes and heroines of Old Testament times; men and women of faith who did extraordinary things in the name of the Lord. As we read their memorials a sneaking suspicion enters our minds. We tell ourselves that somehow they were different from us. They were special; in a whole different class therefore we could never be like them.
When I came across verse 34 many years ago it shined a gleaming ray of hope! I had always allowed my long track record weaknesses (stumblings, fumblings and the like) to overshadow the possibilities of what God was able to do in and through me.
The truth of the matter is this. This is the very stuff, human nature and all its weakness where God infuses His greatest strength.
Let’s look at the principle that became the vehicle in the lives of Hebrews 11. It was the triumph of the principle of faith. Faith in the Almighty and not in themselves!
Dear ladies it is the same for you and me. Faith, looking to God to do what only He can do and will do when our lives are offered to Him. The bible tells us, “He knows our frame, He is mindful that we are dust.” God knew when He called you and me to this great privilege of serving Him, that our weakness would be the means to place our faith in the wonder of His strength.
Look up these verses. 2Corinthians 12:9, Psalm 104:14, 2Corinthians 3:5.
How do these verses give you hope in God’s high calling for you?
