Likewise, older women are to show their reverence for God by their behavior. They are not to be gossips or addicted to alcohol, but to be examples of goodness. They should encourage the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
Titus 2-3-5
I don’t know about you but I seem to be more and more aware of the strong female influence in our media. What’s even more obvious to me is that the role of men as husbands and fathers has changed in the last three decades. Slowly but surely the media has reduced the influence of men to incompetent and unable to be the head of their home. We are being led to believe that women should rule the roost, and men should play the supporting role. If the man doesn’t follow along he’s a caveman who’s out of touch and uneducated toward the rising influence of women.
Modern psychology has also embraced the belief that women have been suppressed and repressed for centuries. Women are encouraged in every facet of life to take her stand and not be the “yes” woman or take a back seat to anyone.
Where did all this begin? Was it the feminist movement? Or did that movement have roots farther back than we realize? Yes, and the founder was Eve.
The distortion of God’s design began in the beginning when Eve revolted against God’s command. From then on the role of men and women has been under attack and has been the source of confusion and deception in society and the home through every age.
Is it any wonder that God wanted to preserve the truths of womanhood in His word? Is it any wonder that He would inspire men of God to carefully write His design for the role of the woman in the church and in the home?
God knew that the purpose of women according to scripture would come under scrutiny and attack by a non biblical and ungodly society.
God also knew that the church would begin to wrestle with the role of men and women and what we see is that God’s people to some degree have bought into the world’s point of view. To some degree in certain areas of our belief system we have exchanged God’s truths for the world’s lies.
So why Titus 2 so important for us twenty-first century Christian women? Because it’s the grass-roots design for men and women in the church and in the home. Times change, God doesn’t. Man will evolve in his ideas and ways of thinking. God’s mind never shifts or re-thinks His plan. Why? Because He is God and His wisdom and His ways are perfect. God has always known that the preservation of the home, is the preservation of a nation.
Ladies, God has entrusted us with this high calling!
Will God’s design seem old-fashioned and out of date in the times in which we live? Yes! Will living out God’s plan for us as women seem like a fish swimming up-stream? Yes! Women in the bible faced the same pressures. It takes great courage to be a woman who walks out her Christianity to please God and not man or herself.
We must be willing to get on board and become a new generation of Godly women! Women who hold fast to God’s design and begin to blaze a trail for those who will follow. Let’s live it out for our daughters and sons, the young women in our church and those who will follow later, the grandchildren.
Ps.11: 3 If the foundations are destroyed what can the righteous do? Let’s dare to re-claim and recommit our selves to the biblical foundations for our marriages and families. Our homes and nation are in desperate need!
As women of faith where do we begin to live out God’s will in the world in which we live?
We must study God’s truth continually.
We must love the Lord fervently.
We must teach the young diligently
We must fear the Lord greatly.
