For I know the plans I have for you”–this is the LORD’s declaration–“plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 HCSB
Six years ago God provided me and my husband with a sweet two bedroom home. At the time we were happy to simply have a home period, because of the cost of real estate here in L.A. Since then we’ve decided to do some updating and remodeling and three rooms are in the process of renovation. Our sweet little home is now under construction. This is not a massive demolition and rebuild like many are in our neighborhood, but the project is messy, noisy and disruptive.
I’m trying to stay sane during this adventure and by the grace of God, so far so good. However, there has been one thought that has sustained my sanity as I wake up each day. It all started with a plan. An engineer came to our home, took a look around at what we had to work with and said, “I’ll draw out a plan and present it to you in a few weeks.” When he came back he laid out the blueprints on our kitchen table and we loved his ideas. We were amazed at his attention to detail and how he maximized so much with so little. This is what I keep reminding myself of as I live in a construction zone right under my roof. The plans are coming together slow but sure and I must wait for the finished outcome.
We’re all familiar with the saying, “I’m a work in progress” and as women of God, it’s true. We are all a work in progress as His beloved daughters. In the process however, we often forget that it all began with a plan. God has carefully, and lovingly looked at you and me with a plan that is perfect through and through, but reconstruction process can be messy, and dusruptive to our flesh. Often we will be exposed for who we really are. The trials and the tests will hammer, chip away and eventually tear down everything that hinders the likeness of our Savior in and with us. The construction process at times will be painful and inconvienient. Yet, if we surrender to God’s infinite knowledge, we can rest assured that His plan is for our welfare and not for our disaster. While you and I are under construction let’s rejoice as Christ is formed in us and this transforming process is achieving a deeper desire for His glory!
Prayer- Have Thine own way Lord, have Thine own way, You are the potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me after Thy will. While I am waiting, yielded and still.
