In July Steve and I flew back to Pennsylvania for a wedding. We knew that there would be many family members that we had not seen for a number of years. Family members who lived nearby many years ago but who had moved away for various reasons. These were the very individuals whom we had shared the gospel with countless times and brought to church with us on occasion. As the seasons changed life took us all in different directions. When Steve and I arrived at a luncheon that was planned for all of the family, the conversations that took place in those few hours proved nothing short of the faithfulness of God!
Two family members in particular had shared with me at length their journey since leaving California and moving to the east coast. I will not share the details but in essence, Jesus has been showing up in the lives of these loved ones and my heart was overwhelmed. What unfolded in those moments of conversation was a reminder to me of what God has told us in His word.
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven You are there: if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me. Psalm 139:7-10
This is a marvelous truth for the child of God. He is omnipresent at every moment and His eye is on us in every place. But I have also prayed these very verses over those who have chosen, at least for the time being to reject God. God will reveal Himself to mankind wherever he is and whatever it takes. So often He uses His own people to show up in unexpected places to say a word or share the gospel to draw the rebellious heart to Himself. Thousands of miles away even when we don’t see it, God is working!
Have you been praying for a prodigal child? Has your heart ached for the salvation of a family member? Is there a co-worker who is antagonistic toward the gospel? Do you have a spouse who is so hardened against the love and mercy of Christ?
Remember, He is there. God is on the move and we can take courage that there is no location, situation or individual that is beyond His reach. Amen!
