Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Cor 9:15
During the Christmas season gift giving has reached epic proportions. The buying and selling, rushing and straining can make it a blurr of activity and anxiety. It’s so easy to get caught in the whirlwind of the Christmas season and lose the wonder of the Christmas Savior. I will never forget mine and Steve’s first Christmas. I bought gifts at the local five and dime and baked cookies for our neighbors. It was all we could afford. But there was one thing we could do. Every card we sent had the gospel message and every conversation was Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! Not much has changed over the last thirty seven Christmas’s. By the grace and kindness of God, He has kept our hearts on the Christ of Christmas.
2 Cor 9:15 has long since been one of my favorite Christmas verses! I know there are so many which describe the meaning, the message and the historical account with greater detail. I appreciate and meditate on them as well during the Christmas season, but for me this just seems to capture the essence of God’s gift to man in Christ. Had it not been for the heart of our loving Creator longing for a loving relationship with His creation, the very idea of Christmas could never have entered the mind of man before or since. It was He who initiated the very idea of Christmas. He reached down to give a gift without man’s acknowledgement, or for that matter except for the prophets of old, without man’s appreciation.
God’s indescribable gift was given with the purest motive! We were helpless and hopeless in our sin sick nature, and this gift would bring hope, healing and pardon to all. God’s indescribable gift was given to shine light on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death and to guide our feet in the way of peace. God’s indescribable gift was given when it wasn’t deserved because we could never earn such a divine and sacred gift. This gift was of purest grace! God’s gift would spare us from an eternity of agony apart from Him, to an everlasting life of unbounding, unbinding, with joy undefinable worship of our Lord. This is indeed what makes God’s Gift beyond telling in human language.
Come, let us adore Him!!! Second, as we give gifts this season lets share the Gift of Jesus Christ. Remember, man’s greatest need is found in God’s greatest gift!
Merry Christmas!
